Fic: Human (link)

Mar 10, 2013 17:44

I posted another semi-pornographic Dean/Cas fic, which you can read here. (Oh, and this one involves pie!) I've written a sequel to it, as well, called "Union," which I'll be posting a link to here soon.

My slash stories don't ever seem to get as graphic as others'. Ya know, there are only so many appendages and orifices on the human body; once you've written about sticking 'em all in all the others once or twice, it kind of loses its lustre, at least for me--except for the emotional context in which it takes place, which is why my slash fiction is always far more about the relationship and whatever's going on within it than the sex acts themselves. Not that I mind reading graphic slash fic; I just can't seem to do it myself. Maybe I'm repressed or something (probably), but certainly, part of why I can't is that maintaining a consistent tone is important to me, and the non-sex parts of my slash fics have a more poetic vibe. I've read beautiful, lyrical fics that finally get to the sex, and then when graphic language is suddenly introduced, I find it jarring.

In any case, I'm exceedingly fond of this Destiel fic, "Human." I really love writing gen fics, really a lot--I find that very creatively fulfilling--but I also enjoy writing sexy slash, which I find more emotionally fulfilling. I love dark, angsty stuff. In professionally written fiction, maybe you need to hold off from some of that, but in fanfic, you can go whole hog as deep into all that dark, intense emotion as you want, which I find cathartic, to say the least. God, I love Supernatural for not being afraid of the angst.

On AO3, most of the comments said "Human" made them cry a lot, which was profoundly fulfilling to hear. I've spent the last several years writing in a vaccuum, beginning to wonder if my fiction would ever impact another person the way I wanted for it to, wondering if others could relate to it, so hearing that made me feel I'd succeeded. I've gotten only one comment on it here on lj (edit: ooh--now two!), though. I'm not sure why, and that was a bummer; I really hoped people would really dig it. I hope you really dig it, if you go read it.

In any case, "Human" stands on its own (as I intend to make always the case with all of my fics, slash and gen), but it is technically a sequel to the other slash fic I posted on here, "Feathers," which you can read by clicking here. Have fun with 'em!
