Broke my heart. Sam already knew that his death was on the table, so to speak. There are so many stories where Sam is an asshole when they're teenagers, but very few where Dean is the jerk of a big brother that most teenage boys would be if they were saddled with their brothers 24/7/365. Great take on teen!chesters.
Totally! Most older brothers tend to be like that, anyway, and then add on top of that all the responsibility for Sam's well-being and that Sam's the favorite, I couldn't picture it any other way.
Oh my God, if only the show had done a childhood flashback like this!
It makes sense that these kids should have had run-ins with social services, and that the bored local kids would go to lengths to make trouble for the new kids.
Your take on their lives felt heartbreakingly real. How could Sam not consider death when faced with real monsters everyday? How could John have not considered killing Sam himself, if he had any idea what Sam was? And how could Dean not pick up on it?
You also wrote about what many siblings don't or can't admit: that the older essentially bullying the younger for years can lead to an estrangement between the adult siblings that never goes away. It was a great idea to write about how these two got past that.
You're so sweet! (I too would love to see this in an episode, maybe intercut with present-day stuff that illustrates how they're now on each other's side, no matter what happens.)

YES YES YES. That part where Dean sees John holding the gun looking at Sam--I imagined that what John was really thinking about was, "Could I ever do this if I had to?" though it looks much more sinister to Dean.

But Sam opened up to Dean and now it's them against their father and the world if it comes down to it.
