Coffee Talk

Note to self: I actually do like dark roasted coffee.

A couple of weeks ago while in DC, I had stopped into a Caribou Coffee place because I had a coupon that would let me buy a bag of freshly ground coffee beans for a couple dollars off. (I love Caribou Coffee, almost as much as Mayorga Coffee.) The coffee I chose was Obsidian, which boasted notes of juicy berries and bittersweet chocolate. I'm a sucker for coffee with chocolate and fruit notes. I had the guy grind the beans coarse for a French press. Today was the first day I tried the Obisdian.
I never drink coffee black. Before I even sip it, I need to add things. So I added some dark chocolate ice cream, some raw honey, and some milk. Then I sipped. And holy shit, it was fantastic. Not bitter, not acidic, not what I had expected from a dark roast. So I added some strawberry yogurt, and for some reason, the mix of honey, chocolate ice cream, and strawberry yogurt intensified the berry notes and chocolate notes in the coffee. It was really smooth and pleasant.
Never thought I would be yammering about coffee notes. Next up, Mayorga Organic Sumatra Gayoland Mandheling, which Adam bought. I think we may be coffee snobs.

(I use Haagen Dazs Dark Chocolate Ice Cream, Lifeway Strawberry Kefir Yogurt or Plain Kefir Yogurt, and Trader Joe's Organic Raw Honey. I like to use drinkable yogurt in place of cream, because I'm strange.)
