Beyond Here Lies Nothing

Well, the season finale of "True Blood" was extremely full of shock, bizarreness, WhatTheFuckness, and enough deviations from the books to make it a totally different entity. But I'm finally okay with it. It's only "loosely" based, after all. Alan Ball will do what he will no matter how the books are written. The last ten minutes of the episode ( Read more... )

That's how I feel! I adore the books, and they will always be true canon to me, but the show is fun. I love the addition of Jessica (though not at first) to the cast, and Lafayette is far too awesome to have been killed off.

I hope things don't get too awkward on set now that Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin are engaged and Alex Skarsgard and Evan Rachel Wood are dating. Because Sookie/Eric is my OTP, and it's been fun to watch the "SOOKEH IS MAHN! >:[ >:[ >:[ " drama play out.

Oh, Sookie/Eric.... really, Alan Ball needs to do something to move that storyline into motion, otherwise book fans may start showing real teeth. I believe that if you're going to adapt a book series to television, you need to keep at least most of the major plot points.

However, I have read that Ball will start veering off into a completely different direction after the third or fourth season, so it looks like True Blood and The Sookie Stackhouse books will just become truly separate stories.

I've decided that the cliffhanger may work in favor, because if the third season follows the third book well enough, Sookie and Bill's relationship will take a much, much harder blow now that they're engaged. And Bill's betrayal would be that much more powerful.

I just watched the finale (before I read the comment, so I didn't get spoiled, and I wouldn't have been upset if I had).

Is it sad that I'm more worried about Hoyt and Jessica's relationship than I am about Bill?

I'll be honest, I'm still irritated that the Jessica character was even conceived, since she's only a character in the show. But I do like that she and Hoyt have been together, and I'd like to see them continue to be together.
