I've read a hella lot over the past (half) year. To the point that its kind of embarrassing to post the full list. So I thought I'd do something much more useful and just post the recommended reads from that time and you can skip the extra slush. :) So, summary:
Lois McMaster Bujold - I actually found myself really enjoying a lot of Lois McMaster Bujold's work. I prefer her fantasy toned books, but her scifi series are interesting as well:
- Beguilement (The Sharing Knife, Book 1)
- Legacy (The Sharing Knife, Book 2)
- Passage (The Sharing Knife, Book 3)
- Horizon (The Sharing Knife, Book 4)
- The Curse of Chalion (Chalion Universe, Book 1)
- Paladin of Souls (Chalion Universe, Book 2)
- The Hallowed Hunt (Chalion Universe, Book 3 - I will note that while its in the same universe I didn't enjoy The Hallowed Hunt as much as the other two Chalion books.)
Megan Whalen Turner - Megan Whalen Turner has a fun series in her Queen's Thief books. I wasn't totally sold on the first one when I was reading it initially, but the ending totally sold it for me. The sequel carries on with equal interest and I'm still looking to get the third one out of the Oakville library at some point.
- The Thief (Queen's Thief, Book 1)
- The Queen of Attolia (Queen's Thief, Book 2)
- and on speculation, The King of Attolia (Queen's Thief, Book 3)
Sherryl Jordan - I've quite enjoyed one of her books that I picked up used years ago. Then that happened to be the title of the book an individual was looking for on #find_a_book and she happily reccomended a bunch of the authors other work in return. She definately gives herself some twisted plots for her characters to find their way in. These are all stand alone volumes.
- Winter of Fire (my old book and introduction to Jordan's work)
- Secret Sacrament
- The Raging Quiet
Juliet Marillier - The first in this trilogy is based on the fairy tale of the girl whose brother's are changed into swans and she must sew them nettle shirts to turn them human, the others lead into the next generations afterwards. Very intense interpretations at times. I've also read her Wolfskin and Foxmask novels but I didn't find them as engaging. *A note of warning, Marillier does seem to use the theme of rape fairly strongly in pretty much all of her books that I've read.
- Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters Trilogy, Book 1)
- Son of the Shadows (Sevenwaters Trilogy, Book 2)
- Child of the Prophecy (Sevenwaters Trilogy, Book 3)
Shannon Hale - I'm working on tracking down more of her books a I seem to quite enjoy her style of writing, they're quick reads so far, but very good.
- Rapunzel's Revenge (comic, hilarious, <3 the goose)
- Princess Academy
Theres more books, both reference books and old beloved series reread (and some I enjoyed but not as much as these that I was too lazy to type about), so if you're desperate for a book fix let me know and I'll see if I can hook you up with some good titles. I am so an enabler.
I should probably mention since last week I'm not letting myself read anything so I can spend that time/brainspace with writing and plotting of my own instead. Except comics. Need something.
Come on, 45 minutes til hopefully new Castle episode!
Never mind, looked it up online while I was waiting. "Re." "Peat." *sigh*
