krabbypatty The threat was beginning to wear Abby down. She was making excuses and winding her way around lies and it was starting to become annoying. She had tried to deal with it on her own and it had only gotten out of hand. The hardest part was keping it out of Gibbs' control.
Mikel had been fun when they started their relationship. They listened to the same type of music. He made her laugh and she thought he was really smart.
And then Mikel got weird. He wanted to know where she was all the time, and he started reading her e-mails and going through her phone. Abby felt she was a big girl and did not need anyone checking in on her. She'd only gone after Mikel when she felt Gibbs was finally out of her reach.
Mikel desisted for a while and then he slashed her tires. She hated the look Gibbs gave her when she finally showed up to work at 12:30. It had taken all morning to get her tires replaced and cost far more than she wanted to think about. He hadn't looked pleased and she was sorry.
She tripped over a boot one night and dropped her phone on the linoleum of her bathroom. When she picked it up she found wiring inside that had nothing to do with the phone. Her phone had been bugged. Mikel had denied it but Abby knew he dabbled in wiring and surveillance.
It took a week for her to realize that he was picking her lock and stealing her mail. Gibbs had sent her home after an all nighter and she had passed out on her couch. Mikel knocked her purse off the kitchen table and woke her up. That time she called the cops and filed the restraining order.
The phone calls never ceased. Abby only ever got a reprieve when he had a job and spent hours cleaning up the gore. She gave in and turned her phone off to get a break. Gibbs barrelled into the lab that afternoon and yelled until she thought she might actually cry. She had made it a point to check for missed calls but Mikel's 100 had cancelled out any of Gibbs'. He didn't like having his team unreachable. That evening she downloaded a specific durge to assign to Mikel on her phone.
Mikel began to follow her three months after the lock picking incident. She wasn't stupid and knew when he was around. He did his best to stay out of sight and soon she began to stay at home watching tv. He stopped bothering her in the house and she could always call the cops.
It was somewhere between the lock picking and the stalking that she finally got her hands on Gibbs. A little bit of alcohol, a medium dose of fear and a whole lot of loneliness turned an evening of drinks into a night of sex. One night drifted into two and then three and finally they gave up pretending that nothing was there. Abby was content to spend a few nights at home. She was hiding Mikel from Gibbs and Gibbs from Mikel.
Abby made sure to go home from NCIS with Gibbs to keep Mikel from following her from her home. She revamped her computer and changed her home number. Abby was great at hiding Gibbs from Mikel, but Mikel made it difficult to hide his presence.
After four phone calls between two and four am, Gibbs threatened to crack the phone in half and send one half to the space station and screw the other to a submarine when she finally turned it off. Thankfully Gibbs was annoyed and curious but respectful of her privacy and didn't search the phone. Though if she thought about it, he probably couldn't figure out how.
In retrospect she was surprised Gibbs didn't see through her excuses and lies at the time. Abby said the phone calls were wrong numbers. Another set of slashed tires and she really had decided she was finished with the whole situation.
Abby lay awake her cheek against Gibbs' back and watched the redlight of her phone blink in the dark. Her voicemail would be full by morning. Mikel would ramble on about how she was in danger and he was sorry for all the things he swore he hadn't done. He begged her forgiveness and wouldn't she please take him back?
She had a court appearance in the morning and it was three am. She really wished all this would stop and go away. If she told Gibbs he'd kill Mikel with his own hands. Gibbs didn't need the trouble and she could handle things herself. Eventually Mikel would get bored and take down the website and move on.
Right now she had to go to sleep and get ready for court.
