Fic Meme: Heroes

Jun 10, 2011 14:26

This looked like fun, all the cool kids are doing it, and it's Friday afternoon.

Oh my, I kind of miss writing in Heroes. To date, Heroes is still the fandom in which I've written the most stories. It always had a huge cast of characters to draw from, and no shortage of plot holes to fix. Oh Heroes, I'm sorry your creators abused you so.

1. Which is your favorite fic?

Love's the Burning Boy and its sequel In the Forests of the Night. Yes, it's full of ridiculous tropes, but one of my favorite things about Heroes was the kick-ass ensemble, and I think I was able to use various characters in good ways throughout that series.

2. Which is your best-received fic?

I think Where You Lay Down, There's My Bed, the amnesia whore!Peter fic. For obvious reasons, ha.

3. Which is your worst-received fic?

Preserving the Bloodline in which the young!founders scheme and angst (it's a Linderman/Angela/Arthur kinda-threesome). I think these characters aren't very popular, which is a tragedy, since Angela is so badass, and there's such weird, twisty relationships between all the founders.

Either that or The Long Crawl of Hugh Glass, which was Sylar gen, written for Heroes Last Author Standing back in the day. Gen!

4. Which is your angsty-est fic?

Um... since prettymuch all I wrote in this fandom was angst, that's hard to call. I think I'll say Five Times Nathan Petrelli Didn't Figure It Out (And One Time He Did) and the sequel Tabula Rasa. The themes were pretty common in my work, but I think this is maybe the most heart-stabby way I ever put the pieces together.

Or maybe Into the Living Sea, in which Nathan commits Peter to a mental institution even though he knows he's not crazy.

5. Which is your funniest fic?

I don't write a lot of humor! Perhaps Gingerbread Men, which is a Sylar/Peter in a specific AU universe of another author. It involves sex in the kitchen, and making fun of Sylar.

6. Smuttiest?

How can I possibly choose? Is one kink smuttier than another? Probably the most self-indulgently smutty thing is What You Don't Know, in which Adam gives Nathan a demonstration of his dominance over Peter. Or A Choice Vintage, with Arthur/Linderman/Peter is kind of deliciously wicked.

7. Fluffiest?

Study Break, which is a wee!Petrellis ficlet.

8. Have you ever made someone cry with a fic?

Um... I know I've been told that fics of mine made someone cry. I think it was one of the post-apocalypse fics, either Territories, which is Sylar/Luke, or Behind Clouds, Sun Shines, which is Sylar/Mohinder.

9. Which fic frustrates you the most?

Par Avion, a Mon Amour, the WWII AU. I had all these grand plans, and was just never able to make it work right. I didn't have time to do all the research I wanted to, and I ended up taking the plot in an entirely different direction because I knew I didn't have time to devote to the kind of length the better plot would have demanded. There are scenes in this fic that I love, but ultimately, I don't think it lives up to its potential. Le sigh.

10. Which fic was the most fun to write?

Perhaps Liberty, the Ellis Island AU? I'm a big nerd, and I had the best time browsing pictures of Ellis Island. I also love finding ways to fit into AU settings.

11. Who is your favorite OC you've ever created?

There are so many characters in Heroes that I almost never had to create on OC. Seriously, so many canon characters. But I kinda like Silas, the evil boarding school student in my Untitled Kink Meme Fic #2. You can tell its literary merit by the title.

12. Are you better at oneshot or multipart?

I think I'm built for multi-part, because everything I wrote wanted to turn into a series or an epic-length smutfest. Luckily the kink meme inspired me to write many things that were short and one-shot-y, so I didn't end up with just three or four ongoing universes.

13. What character do you think you're the best at portraying?

I gotta go with Peter Petrelli. Because from the very first, I always liked his story the best. Even though he was occasionally dumb as a sack of hair.

14. What character is the most difficult to portray?

Er.... Mohinder? I really want to be able to write him better, but his characterization varied so wildly from episode to episode (let alone season to season) that I never could get a grip on him. Poor Mohinder. Also, I always wanted to be able to write Hiro better, but I was so in love with future!Hiro that I think perhaps I didn't do regular!Hiro justice.

Okay, now you do the meme in a current or past fandom!
