- News of earthquakes or even the earthquakes themselves didn't really rattle me in the past, but now that recent destructive quakes have hit closer to home (New Zealand, and now Japan), I am getting more anxious. There was a small earthquake in Manila just hours after the New Zealand quake, and so people here in the Philippines were considerably fearful after the quake in Japan struck. It doesn't help that the office is on the 11th floor, and the higher you are, the more likely you are to feel the residual tremble. And we are moving to the 20th floor of another building later this year. Just great.
I first knew about the earthquake when a friend teleconferencing with a Japanese student tweeted about the quake happening during their call. He heard the rumbling in the background. I hope I can soon hear news about my relatives in Tokyo, who were gracious enough to host us when we toured there.
You know Japan is probably the most prepared against earthquakes and tsunamis, but oftentimes, nature can deal such a catastrophic and unavoidable blow.
If you've never endured an earthquake before, the most terrifying feeling is not actually the rumbling, but the uncertainty of when it will end and how much stronger it will get.
- On to happier things-the Stone Temple Pilots concert! It was nice to see that Scott Weiland had some meat on his bones, because he looked scary-skinny during his Velvet Revolver days. I don't think he even knew what country he was in that night, and his voice wasn't at its finest, but if you knew Scott Weiland, that was to be expected. It was probably enough that he actually showed up to the gig. What a joy it was to personally witness his amazing ability to transform his voice from the Eddie Vedder-like baritone growl to the more conventional tenor in a pinch. Wow.
I was annoyed when the guy next to me kept screaming for "Plush" (an overrated song, I think), but the loudest singalong was, to my surprise, to "Interstate Love Song". "Down" and "Silvergun Superman" were nice and surprising inclusions. "Sex Type Thing" triumphantly ended the main set, but they came back for two more songs, effectively ending with "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart". Oh, so glorious. My brother and I joked that he was probably the youngest one in the arena, not because it was a school night, but because most of the audience were the ones who were fully conscious in the 90's.
Dean DeLeo digging into Robert Smith's make-up kit makes him look deceptively hot. Robert DeLeo looks the most dad-like of all of them, with Scott running a close second. And Eric Kretz looks the same. Why do drummers in bands usually look the youngest? I always liked STP because I recognized how every member was an exceptional musician.
- You can't truly love a team until you've suffered with it. I
paid my dues, although my fangirl status crystallized even
earlier than that.
- I want to get more skin-care facials and peels, but ack, the spending for my car won't stop. This month, I paid my dad for the last of my share of the car purchase, but I also have to spend to get the papers for ownership transfer and yearly registration. I was hoping to get breathing room next month, but I have to get an oil change and maybe throw in a preventive maintenance check as well. Dammit! This car is getting in the way of my vanity. =P
Want: CHOCOLATE. Two in a row. Dammit. =(
Need: To have my laptop fixed; the optical drive is bulimic. It keeps ejecting the discs I put in.
Love: The shiny new white Playstation 3
Hate: I forgot my new password for my office computer. Argh.
