Aqua is an interesting girl, to say the least. She’s devoted to her friends, and willing to do whatever it takes to keep them safe. This is obvious from the beginning, as she shows concern at Terra not passing their Mark of Mastery test, and Ven running off after Terra once she’s given her first task as a Keyblade Master. With Ven’s refusal to go home heavy on her mind, she also becomes more and more concerned as she goes from world to world and hears of the terrible things that Terra had supposedly done. This cause’s her to briefly doubt him. But after some harsh words from Ven, and their short, but emotional reunion in the Keyblade Graveyard, her faith in him completely restored, and she goes so far as to sacrifice herself to the Darkness to save Terra, who has been possessed by Xehanort at this point.
With this devotion comes worry. Aqua constantly worries about Terra and Ven. They are her closest friends. She’s known Terra longer than Ven, but her bonds to both of them is equally strong. However, this doesn’t mean she doesn’t envy the two, as they have a closer bond with each other than they do with her. Most of the time though, this doesn’t bother her.
Aqua initially comes off as a serious and responsible person, but once one gets to know her, they’ll find that she’s reliable, strong willed, kind, and modest. Even though Terra and Ven are always at the head of her thoughts, she cares about many people. However, this has gotten her in trouble before. When she thought Terra was succumbing to the darkness, she was torn between doing her duty as a Keyblade Master and being a friend. She tried being both at the same time toward him, but that only succeeded in pushing him farther away from her, and she never got the time to properly tell him what she really thought.
Finally, Aqua is shy when it comes to her feelings about romance, as proved by Zack asking her out. She awkwardly declined him by saying she had to leave, and the awkwardness continued, even as she told him she couldn’t make any promises about that one date. This awkwardness is partially a lack of exposure, and partially a part of herself that she’s not comfortable with yet.

It was a mess, really. Ven was sleeping, possibly forever, and there had been no sign of Terra after the battle. After a short talk with Yen Sid, she’d left Ven in Castle Oblivion and gone in search of Terra, and was horrified at what she’d seen.
Xehanort had taken over her good friend. He was a shell of what he once had been. And the fact that Xehanort had done this to him…
That infuriated her.
She couldn’t remember a time when she’d been so angry. But she’d done her best to keep a level head despite the situation. Until the man that had once been her friend stabbed himself in the chest with his keyblade. She’d felt helpless in that moment, thinking she was unable to save him. But as he fell into the portal that had opened behind him, she knew what she had to do.
Jumping in after him, one thing became clear in her mind. ‘I have to save him.' ’Even though it was obvious she wouldn’t make it out after him. ‘Terra…' She thought, smiling sadly as she gave up the two things that would keep him safe until he reach the light again: Her Armor and her Keyblade. ‘Please keep fighting.’
She sent him off, the sad smile still on her face. She prayed that Ven would forgive her, because she wasn’t sure if she’d ever see him again. Closing her eyes, she accepted this fate…
And woke up soaking wet.
Groaning, she sat up, and took in the sight around her. ‘Where am I?’
