Go See It!

Just returned home from seeing Zoe Scofield and Juniper Shuey's "The Devil You Know is Better than the Devil You Don’t" with

seriously... I doubt many people have better things to do than to be enveloped in an ecstatic ritual such as this! But then, I'm biased to such things...

Brilliant! Still vibrating with wide shining eyes! Gorgeous mix of training styles and personalities. The use of pre-recorded images on the scrim... along with the aquatic play of light before the house darkened... truly inspired.

Yes, I'm gushing. No, I don't care. The standing "O" was better deserved than some of the symphonies I've attended (and they're quite amazing).

The jerky-puppeteer movements sucked me in while the contrasting organic movement, especially the wide-stanced hopping, seemed unearthly and more than a little bit disquieting. The contrast of hands locked at the pelvis during so much of the piece against the evocative and intimate gestures used in the duets was exquisitely powerful. Loved it!

My only regret is not being able to travel with everyone for the party at The Sitting Room. I hope they all are enjoying a fabulous evening that they helped create. Absolutely looking forward to more productions from Zoe and Juniper.

May the best of your past be the worst of your future...
