Well, I have finally joined the ranks of the YouTube violators! Took over a year since I started vidding - I feel almost special to finally be amongst the persecuted ;) My Burn Notice - Die Another Day vid was reported, not by the record company, but by 20th Century Fox Film Corporation. That came as a surprise. I didn't even realize 20th Century Fox owned Burn Notice.
Now, I know all of us vidders are infringing on copyrights, both the song and the show. Though I do actually own the song for every vid I've done, except for Here with Me which I couldn't find on iTunes. And I do own all the DVD's for Supernatural. For some reason, though, it makes more sense to me when a song is reported than a show - not that either make much sense to me. Especially when it's free advertising for the show or band! I've had numerous people tell me they were either going to or had checked out the shows after watching my vids. And I have bought a ton of music on iTunes based on music used in a vid I've seen. I've even bought a couple actual CD's *gasp* when I couldn't find something on iTunes. Vids have introduced me to all sorts of new artists.
And how does it work? Does the copyright holder contact YT and say, take anything down about Burn Notice, unless posted by these known copyright holders? Or does the holder actually pay someone to go search YT and find violators? Somehow I imagine it's the latter. And that's just crazy to me. What a job.
