Deviance in short, is out of the normality of everyday society, whether it be self-mutilation, odd colored hair, or even enjoying sushi. Many people fall into a deviant type category, with one action or another. Two of the major classes of people that fall into this category are "punks" and "goths", not to mention homosexuals. It is not necessarily a bad thing to deviate from everyday society, but in fact adds flavor.
There are also other forms of deviance, such as spending the night over another of the opposite sexes house whom is not your spouse or serial killers, which cause gossip, hate, and in general, negative emotions.
To relieve deviance, people use shame. For example, one sheriff in Arizona makes the inmates have to wear pink underwear. Since small communities have started to evolve into urbanized areas, shaming has started to become obsolete. Many are trying to bring it back, which is obvious.
There are 3 main factors that make up deviant people; inside factors, outside factors, and prior experiences. Whether or not it is a chemical imbalance, experiences during childhood, or abnormal social interaction, it is still deviant.
Remember, you are the spice of life. Better neapolitian ice cream than just vanilla.
