"No, stop that. You can't have that."

"But Daddyyyyyyyyy. Daddy, I want it! Mum would let me have iiiiiiiiiiiiit."

"I'm not your mum, so no."

"DADDY THAT ISN'T FAIR! I WANT IT I WANT IT!"

"I said no!"

The little girl began sobbing and throwing her arms and legs about in a fit of petulant anger. Her face was a horrific shade of red and her cries echoed along the small, rock-covered stretch of beach on which she'd stopped to admire some sea creature or another, which had long since scurried off in terror at her ear-splitting shouting.

If only the Doctor could do the same.

"Oi! Stop crying!" The Doctor huffed, about ripping out his hair in frustration at the child who looked too much like her mother and acted too little like her father. "I all ready said--"

"What's this then?"

The Doctor looked up to see Rose come jogging up the beach, lips pouted angrily at the sight of her sobbing daughter in the sand. The little girl perked up immediately upon hearing her mother's voice and went right into a fresh series of wailing.

"Muuuummyyyyyyyyyy," she sobbed, holding up her chubby arms for Rose to lift her. "Daddy won't let me keep the craaaaaaab."

"Well, that seems daft," Rose replied, giving the Doctor a questioning look. "Don't see why you can't take one home."

"Because I told her she can't."

"Why?"

The Doctor decided he wasn't going to have much hair left very soon and couldn't decide what made him more upset: the lack of his lustrous 'do or being in a two-against-one argument that he had no chance of winning.

He opened his mouth to reply when a familiar noise cut through the atmosphere. Both the Doctor and Rose snapped their heads 'round as the air ripped apart, a large, blue box warping in and out of space until it nestled, finally silent, in the sand.

Without a word, the Doctor booked it for the TARDIS, which opened its doors easily at his touch. He whooped and looked back to see Rose trying to get to them, daughter in tow, and for a moment felt a pang of guilt before the doors suddenly closed, blocking his family from view.

Welcome home, came a sing-song voice in his mind, a cool touch of air against his skin, and he smiled.

"Yeah. Welcome home."
