[couples_therapy] - Emergency

Nov 10, 2008 20:56

The earth is cracked and grey, dead or dying around you, but you have no care for the rocks littering the barren wasteland in which you land. They crack and shatter beneath your weight, hollow, brittle remnants of a once-proud world now wracked by fallout from war.

She is not far away, as broken and mangled as the landscape and you reach out to her, tentatively pressing your mind to hers, offering what comfort you can. She rejects you immediately, viciously and you draw back, your pride injured. You want only to help, have travelled across the galaxy to bring her solace, responding to the emergency call sent out the moment she was damaged.

You cannot understand why she pushes you away.

Around you, the atmosphere ignites from a nearby gas explosion, painting the sky red as fire roils through the air, evaporating what oxygen remains, eating itself into oblivion. She does not move nor react, simply waiting where she lays, crumbled in upon herself. You can feel her pain through the link you share, the link all of your brothers and sisters share, and you want nothing more than to ease it, to bring her comfort. But she will not let you near, repelling you again and again, and you realise too late that she is not looking to you for help. She never wanted you.

She is calling to him and it about rips you apart inside.

Still, you wait as long as you can, ignoring the calls from your pilot, from the man you love as much as the ship beside you, singing softly, pleading desperately that she let you assist her. That she open her networks and let you in. But her walls remain, rebuke after rebuke as you attempt to console her, and as the fire in the sky finally dies away, you leave her alone on what remains of the planet, a shimmering, glassy expanse of nothing, and you wonder if you'll ever see her again.
