Today is patch day for Everquest, as the Buried Sea (BS) expansion goes live. This is the culmination of a string of interesting and appropriate expansion acronyms, following SoL, GoD, Oow, and DoD (the latter of which may only be amusing to a civil service brat like myself).
In between running the patcher on 6 computers every half hour or so (my 3 and Mr. Brienze's 3), I'm fidgeting and killing time waiting to see how bad the "oops, we f*cked up, servers going down again for a brief patch" fubar is going to be. Plus our pretty, shiny, custom interfaces where all pictorial information is efficiently displayed and text is easy to read, will inevitably be broken into an ugly, unreadable mess.
So... does anyone have HP gen recs for me? I'm poking around at the line notes scribbled in my copy of Hamlet last year, trying to cast the last few parts so I can start writing. Any good gen would help get me in the mood to write this, but especially Remus/Snape (or Remus/Sirius, or any combination of all three) that ISN'T about teh sexx0r.
I almost got sucked into the latest
tw_exchange challenge, about Torchwood crossovers. But then I realized my darkfic idea was just a Doctor Who/BtVS crossover, with no Torchwood cast. (Because, y'know, I suspect Spike's chip wouldn't keep him from hurting an alien, and Nine might even appreciate that.) But with Phoenix Rising approaching, I'm determined to not get distracted by non-HP fandoms for the next few months.
Along similar lines, I've been teaching myself how to knit. I wanted to wait and post pictures of my first project, this
baby dragon, but the Mr. and I agree it's got a pitiful excuse for wings, and I'm on Attempt #4 to re-do the wing pattern. I'm planning to make
this corset as a test of my ability to knit to gauge. What I'd really like to make, though, is
this corset, with two-color intarsia to pick out the "boning". It isn't what I was originally thinking of for the masquerade, but I think it'd look pretty cool nonetheless.

Oh, hey, the "noon" news just said the finals of the Westminster dog show are tonight. For a dedicated cat person, I have an unholy fascination with dog shows. I always like the breeds with personalities that I could in no way live with, like the
Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen. "A good voice, freely used" indeed.
I bought plenty of yogurt and salad fixings over the weekend, so I will no longer have to think about what to eat for lunch, or be tempted to just go to Jack In The Box for egg rolls or mozarella sticks. (Not much fond of their sandwiches, but they have the closest thing to a proper egg roll south of NYC.) I think I'll go eat lunch, and contemplate the stuffed shrimp and cream pasta I'm making for dinner tomorrow night. Holiday calories don't count, and while I can't eat chocolate and have never been fond of frilly pink cards, food holidays are always welcome afaic.
ETA: Yay for the PBGV winning the hound group! Too bad she lost out to the stupid English Springer Spaniel for Best in Show.
