So there is this internship I really really want this summer. It is only nine weeks so I think Greg and I can work it out and besides that it is perfect for me. Science division of a textbook publising company. So now I'm freaking out because I've never written a cover letter and also never applied for anything that I really wanted with any fear of not getting it. But I think the odds are against me on this one. They seem to prefer college seniors and they are only taking two people. There is also an interview which is usually where I end up looking stupid. But I really don't know what to do with this cover letter. There are a million of them on the internet but most of the ones I saw were stupid sounding and didn't fit my situation. Plus how embarassing would it be to copy portions of an online template and them think, "I've heard this exact wording before." So...the like three readers of my live journal...help? How formal does it have to be? Can I be conversational? Business major Jackie I need you! I figured of my LJ friends J and Rae have real jobs, Whit is in Grad school, someone must have written an amazing cover letter before that they want to email to me? :-) Ugh. Every other job I've ever had it has been like fill out an application and send a resume. I guess they skim your cover letter to decide if they are going to throw it out faster or not.
Anyway..... I haven't updated in awhile. Things have been kind of boring. I get like one day of work every two weeks. But I have been going out of town a lot so I guess that makes up for the boredom. Right before Easter Greg and I went to Orlando and Cape Canavaral and did Wet and WIld, Hollywood Studios (the new weird name for MGM), and Kennedy Space Center. It was a whirlwind three days and a lot of driving but it was fun. We were supposed to go to NYC that week but it turned into semi-disaster so I suggested Orlando as a back-up plan.
Then I did the AWP conference with Whit in Denver last weekend. It was a lt of fun. I really liked Denver, it is a cool city. And i have great pictures from the downtown aquarium which I plan on putting on Facebook soon. One of the publishers i met there is who told me about the website on which I found this internship I'm dying over.
I think I'm going back to bed. I haven't been feeling so well.
