I got in a very minor accident in a parking lot last night. I was driving down the aisle leaving the lot when another car backed out of a stall into the side of my car. No one was hurt. The other guy's car had some scratches and scraps on his back bumper and I have a dent in the side of my car. We didn't call the police because it wasn't a huge deal. Of course, the other guy had to make a big deal out of it (I should mention he was driving a 2001 Audi). It was his fault, but he kept insisting that it was mine and even tried several times to get me to admit guilt by saying things like, "So you agree this was your fault?" I was like, um, no, you hit me idiot. (Didn't actually call him an idiot.) I also didn't feel better about the fact that I was alone in my car and he had two passengers. Fortunately, I had a friend who had just left the scene come back and help me out. I was way too stressed to deal with it myself, especially since I felt like he was kind of harassing me about it being my fault. After taking forEVER to exchange info and discuss what happened we finally just decided to let our insurance companies decide who was at fault. Luckily for me, his insurance rep called me today saying it was his driver's fault and that they will be covering the repairs for my car. Yay! Especially considering I don't have collision coverage so I'd have been screwed. I called my insurance last night as well and gave them my story. When my rep called me back today he said that the other driver seemed "wishy-washy" about what happened. Which is because he was obviously trying to blame me for him not paying attention. When it comes down to it, it doesn't even matter what I was doing, I was already moving and he backed out into me. If he saw me, all he had to do was stop. I think his problem was that he was driving a car that is at least partially if not entirely owned by his brother. And I'm guessing that maybe they don't have full coverage, so they wanted my insurance to cover it. A piece of advice: if you're driving an Audi, get full coverage. But, it's all good now. My repairs are covered and my insurance isn't going up. I win. Go me.
