Sooooo long between entries and when I finally have some thoughts I want to get into journal form it's not pondering the meaning of life that occupies me...it's laundry. Or, more exactly, laundry as a thing here where we live.
The tvättstuga (laundry room) is in the little cabin furthest away from the water pump. This means that we have no running water in the tvättstuga for several months of every year because the underground pipes freeze. Poor planning you might think but our home was designed and built to be a summer retreat. There was in fact no tvättstuga until we converted the kitchenette inthe little guest cabin. The weather was warm at the time and I wasn't thinking about winter. (So yes, poor planning.)
In the wintertime we have to hook up a hose to the shower head in the main cabin, run it out the window and down the yard where it gets hooked up to a second hose halfway to its destination, then into the window of the tvättstuga where it meets up with the washing machine. The whole thing is enough of a hassle that around the end of March Björn and I start playing Mexican standoff and try to wait until we at least have running water at the outdoor spigot that's halfway to the tvättstuga.
But this year winteriness won and we were finally forced to run the hoses all the way from the bathroom. Glitches prevailed but by evening we'd managed to get three loads of clothes done, hopefully enough that we can wait out these last frozen days/weeks and do laundry next time without hoses.
This morning there was a short snow-mixed-with-rain shower. I'll be keeping the hoses handy.
