When I was about 13 years old I read A Diary of Anne Frank. No, that is too simply put. I devoured the book. I lived in it. I WAS Anne Frank.
I'm in Amsterdam today on business but as things have turned out I have some time in the middle of the day during which they meeting is going to be in Dutch and I am free to wander. I checked out the local museums and saw (somewhat to my amazement) that the house where Anne Frank hid and wrote that book is right here, still intact. It's a museum and I actually could take my middle of the day free time and BE in the ACTUAL HOUSE which before today I didn't even know was still standing.
So I went online to double check that it wasn't crazy expensive to go there for just an hour or so and that it's open today.
And the one day that I am in Amsterdam with some free time happens to fall on Yom Kipper and Anne Frank's house is closed.
Amsterdam, I will be back and I will check the Jewish calendar first and I will visit that house for as long as I like.
PS Amsterdam, you seem to be a very interesting city to visit but it would be very nice if you could put up some maps of the transportation system so that your visitors could get around better. Just sayin'.
