If Björn ruled the world

Björn and I play an online game based on the settling of the wild west. There are lots of players in the game that we've gotten to be friendly with over the years.

One of the players we interact with often is originally from a former Russian federation called Chechnyan. I don't know when or why he moved to Sweden, but he did and he has a cowboy character in the game we play.

His Swedish is truly horrible. I cannot understand anything his writes in his messages. In many situations in the game the players need to write instructions and requests to each other. This guy gets a lot of grief from the other players because his Swedish is so bad. Very often less mature players can be openly unkind to him, but he doesn't even get that he's being made fun of.

Enter Björn.

A couple of nights ago Björn stayed at his computer a little longer than usual. When he came into the living room I asked if something was up.

"Just chatting with Chechnyan," he said.

"Ugh," I replied. "What a pain!"

"Nah," answered my wonderful husband. "There are a lot of reasons to dislike a person but language should never be one of them."

Turns out that Chechnyan needed to write up some text that would be seen by all of the players. Björn helped him create something that not only was grammatically correct, but which also turned a formerly hostile situation into something friendly and fun.

That's my diplomatic husband in a nutshell: zero hostility, gentle, friendly, fun. And ever, ever so kind.

Wouldn't it be something if all of the leaders of the real world had those qualities?

Björn, language
