The Final Toothbrush Chapter

Apr 09, 2010 23:04

Not that I want to obsess over this whole toothbrush thing, but one more thing did happen today.

I slept late (see yesterday's button re opening session speakers), hopped in the shower, brushed my teeth, got dressed fast and made it downstairs in time to blend into the crowd of people coming out of hte morning opening session.

During the first breakout session I suddenly realized that in my rush to get out of the room I had forgotten to hide my toothbrush. It was lying vulnerably propped up on the little dish with the plastic cap sitting dangerously nearby. Darn it! I don't want to be a total weenie and buy two new toothbrushes in as many days, but CRAP! It just really does seriously ick me out to think of anyone other than me touching my toothbrush! I love and adore every single one of you but if you ever touched my toothbrush I would discreetly put it into the plastic recycling bag and then get out a new one which I would hide from you.

So anyway. When the session was over I hightailed it to my room, hoping to get there before the manic cleaner did.

No such luck. When I opened the door I could see by the appearance of my bed that the room was clean. (The bed is, by the way, the reason that I do not simply put out the Do Not Disturb sign when I leave thee room. I LUV coming back to my room after a day of working and finding that some very detail-oriented person has turned my bed into an inviting haven of relaxation.)

Into the bathroom with dread.

I got the rose treatment!

It wasn't quite the way my friend described it yesterday. A washcloth had been folded into a cup-like shape which more or less resembled a flower with petals and leaves and my toothbrush was lovingly placed into that fabric cup. It was really quite touching to think that someone had taken the time to create that little washcloth toothbrush holder just for me.

So I am practicing a cognitive-behavioral trick (which is, after all, one of the reasons I am even attending this conference) and I have DECIDED that the wonderfully attentive person who made that flower cup was very careful to disinfect their hands before touching my toothbrush. And further, that this wonderful thoughtful careful person did not come anywhere near the business end of said toothbrush.

I will NOT buy a new one. I will rinse this one in very hot water (because that is a healthy thing to do) and I will actually

brush

my

teeth

with it.

It will be a victory for us all.
