Before I moved to Sweden (before my life was completely transformed by the wonderfulness that is Björn) I bought bedsheets every so often whenever the old ones seemed a little, well, old ( Read more... )

Ha.

I can throw out the ones you bought last week if you really need the space...but not the old ones. But I know you understand. You forgot to mention the embroideries. How could I throw away fully functional sheets that my beloved ancestors spent hours at with needles and thread to put in their initials and some kind of flowery pattern next to that.

Not to mention the ones that are both embroidered AND ummm... some other nice thingy you people who can do stuff with fabric do.

Here's where the picture would have been if I'd known how to insert it :)

So. Anyway. Yup. I'm bad when it comes to getting rid of old stuff. (And bad at a lot of other things too I'm sure, but that's beside the point.) But I always feel my ancestors sighing with relief whenever I save something like that, and they smile with pride whenever I make my bed with a sheet they spent so many hours making pretty, and they giggle with delight when i and my love try to pull-stretch-and fold those sheets as gently as possible after washing them, as they are so brittle now.

If, God forbid, some of those old sheets would rip apart when you fold them, you could make improvised wool balls out of the shreds. That way you would still keep the memories of your ancestors and get a whole lot of nice balls to .. err, well perhaps Hanna the cat would claim some of them. :-P
