It was a busy, moving-around-a-lot kind of day that ended in a trip to Copenhagen with a friend to visit another friend. An evening of girl talk where one topic led to another and we laughed our butts off all along the way. And we went out to pick up an order of amazingly delicious and creative sushi.
Sometimes when you order sushi your order yours' and they order theirs' and you might swap a piece or two if there's something you especially like (or dislike) in your order (or theirs'). But sometimes you just order thirty mixed pieces with an extra Viking roll (as we did last night) and have fun at the table bargaining for the pieces you're most interested in. Which is, according to me, the absolutely best way to share sushi with good friends.
Sushi is more than rice and fish and interesting other bits. Something about the eating of sushi among girlfriends puts us in a cosy "just between us" frame of mind. You just don't have the same kind of dinner talk over a steak as you do over shared sushi. Maybe it's something in the wasabi that loosens up the mind and the tongue.
All of which reminded me of a wild-looking kiwi sushi I found on the internet years ago and made myself (also years ago). Amazingly enough the recipe is still to be found on the web. Another girlfriend ends her LJ posts with fabulous recipes from her extensive collection. Here, then, is me pretending to be Marie and giving you a recipe:
