Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds ended today.
Finally.
After they dragged their feet around going nowhere for a year and then tied things up in a manner that honestly raises more questions than it answers, I'm honestly happy to see it end.
There was so much they dropped the ball on in terms of writing. Aki's powers, the Twins in general, the minor characters from the first season who only got cameos in the last couple episodes in a halfhearted statement of "hi, we haven't forgotten they exist, really"... And I'll admit to curiosity as to where Sly considering stealing Stardust might have gone. It kind of feels like they were going slowly on purpose because they wanted to draw it out as long as possible because 5Ds was going to be the last one, might as well draw it out as long as possible, but then they decided to do Zexal and suddenly had to wrap everything up in six months. Granted, the ending made enough sense within itself, but within the rest of the context, something feels... off, to me.
And seriously, would it have killed them to let Yuusei lose once? I mean, seriously. Both Atem and Judai had plot-relevant losses, for crying out loud! Yuusei could have at least had a trivial one. I get that he's supposed to be Mr. Perfect Sparkle Stew, but it's annoying.
(P.S. Sherry can still go die in Nelthy's fire offscreen and never be mentioned again please and thank you. Stupid gender-swapped Edo clone with everything remotely likable stripped away who can't use proper French damn it Fleur de Sorciere is wrong! *breathes*)
Sure, there are a couple things I'll miss. ...Well, really mostly just Jack - any episode that centered around him after about episode 26 was awesome. (Before that he was a little annoying.) And the rare instances that focused on the Twins, too. But for the most part... It's finally over, and in my opinion, it's about time.
As for Zexal? I'll do the same thing I said I'd do for 5Ds - I'll give it a year, and if I'm sick of it by then, I'll stop, but otherwise, I'll keep going. I'm staying optimistic, though. After all, they're starting fresh. Zexal's writing starting out can't possibly be as bad as 5Ds' writing got, right?
(Not touching what 4Kids did, by the way, except I'd suggest sending them to the ECE Ethics lecture class I'm taking this semester.)
...Also. I caught up with Puella Magi Madoka Magica. If you haven't seen it, I really suggest you watch it. Seriously.
