So, tonight, anime club went into New York in order to have sushi and go to a karaoke bar. We gathered at the train station, and the train ride into the city was uneventful, which means it went well. We went to the sushi restaurant first, and it was amazing. Four of the guys and I shared a really big platter of sushi and sashimi (which I'm probably spelling wrong) and rolls of some kind that I'm not sure what they were but, and it was all so delicious~~~~ Also we all shared a couple of plates of I'm not sure what they were called (I think it began with E) but they were kind of like snow peas except they were beans. They were so good...
Then we went to the karaoke place... and here's where things turned sour. Because apparently, in New York City, there is this law of some kind that says that places that start serving alcohol after a certain time can't allow anyone under the drinking age in after they start serving it, even if the alcohol isn't the main point of the place and if the minors have absolutely no intention of consuming anything alcoholic. And of course, because the drinking age is 21, at least half of us (including myself) were underage, so we couldn't go in. Please note that it was apparently perfectly fine to go in at that point last year, and the place neglected to let our president know about this little detail. So, no karaoke for us.
I could go into a rant here about my opinion on alcohol and the laws about it and the absolute idiots in the lowest common denominator that ruin things for all of the people who are actually intelligent enough to think (few of us as there are). But it's 2 AM, so I'll save it for another time.
Instead of karaoke, therefore, we spent about an hour sitting in a nearby park (not sure of the name) talking, and then we went back to campus, where we found a room open by chance and they turned on a few random videos (though the sound system decided not to work). When I decided to leave, of course, it took me an hour to get back to the campus I live on, because it just so happened that today was also some random festival thing, and people were therefore staying out and partying. And at the point where I was trying to catch a bus? There was so much traffic it was barely moving, coupled with the fact that there was this HUGE mob of people, all of whom were also trying to catch the bus.
Notes to self, as I will be Secretary of the anime club next year and will therefore have the power to at least try to do something about these next year, as long as I remember:
~Find a decent karaoke bar that doesn't serve alcohol, or go earlier in the day (the latter may not be possible depending on class schedules)
~Don't schedule it the same day as that festival thing on the campus adjacent to the one I live on
~If it must be scheduled that day, arrange alternate transportation
c*llege,
me? cynical? nevaaaaaaaaar,
i should just shut up now shouldn't i,
this shouldn't bother me so much ne,
some people are stupid
