So, I was coming back to my dorm building this evening after orchestra rehearsal, and standing right outside the door to the building were three random people who I don't know and won't recognize if you point them out to me, all of whom were smoking. Right outside the main entrance to the building.
The rule is that there is no smoking within 25 feet of a residential building.
If it were raining, I wouldn't be as annoyed about this. I mean, no one wants to stand out in the rain, and if you really have to smoke and it's raining out, I'm not going to get as annoyed that you want to stand where it's dry. But it's not even raining tonight! I hear we're supposed to get more snow, but it's not raining! There's even a picnic table that's finally not buried under the snow from the blizzard we had a couple weeks ago, rather close by! And no one was sitting there - they'd have it all to themselves!
But no. Instead, they stand in front of the main entrance to the dorm, smoking, breaking the rules, and making my walk more irritating than it had to be. And it's not just tonight - it doesn't happen every time, but a lot more often than I would like, smoking people congregate there.
I don't understand why people smoke in the first place - I mean, it smells absolutely dreadful, not to mention the fact that all of these studies have proven that IT WILL PROBABLY KILL YOU. But it's probably some sort of social thing that I have no hope of understanding anyway, and it's not like I can stop anyone from doing it, so. Still, that doesn't mean that I want to be around it. And yet if you're standing in the main entrance of my dorm, there isn't exactly another way I can go in.
NOT TO MENTION THAT IT'S AGAINST THE RULES TO SMOKE THERE ANYWAY.
It's just rude! Sit at the picnic table, people! It's there!
c*llege,
this shouldn't bother me so much ne,
