Random Fangirling
Last night, as I think I mentioned, was MtG club. (For those who are like 'huh?', it's a shortening of Magic: the Gathering. I could be weird in my shortening stuff...) It was my second time ever drafting - that's when several people buy a few booster packs apiece and then they open one at a time, take one card at a time, and then pass it to the next person so that, in theory, you only get the cards that you want/can use rather than a completely random selection - and the first time that actually got anywhere, seeing as the first time we got through one round and that was it. There were 30-something people there. After everything, I wound up in 15th place, which I think is amazing for my first time. People were actually complementing me on how well I drafted - really, I just went with what I usually go with. Green, and then either red or white.
Anyway.
Got up early this morning to watch the English Dub premier of 5Ds. (Won't do this every week, but D's home for the weekend, so.) Actually, I turned the TV on when it was about half-way through this show called "Dinosaur King" or something. I don't know. All I know is that I was laughing so hard. It's an obvious crossover between Pokemon and Digimon Tamers, only made more obvious by the voice actors they chose. There was one kid (probably a protagonist) who sounded exactly like Ash, one probably on one antagonist side that sounded like Misty, and this one lady who sounded like Jessie (all from the Pokemon 4Kids dub). AND SHE WOUND UP CLINGING TO A FIREWORKS ROCKET WITH HER TEAM AND BLASTING OFF. Needless to say, it was pretty darn epic.
Then came 5Ds. Hyper Drive apparently won the theme song poll. I don't mind - I like the song, it's nice sounding and kinda fits the theme of the show kinda (more than Need for Speed anyway) - but... I dunno if it's just that I've been in the fandom for too long or what, but I hear waaaaaay too many double entendres in it. But that's not important.
Mukuro's name was changed - don't remember what it was changed to. Don't really care that much though... Jack's VA should really lose the British accent. I mean, COME ON. It hurt. Honest does it soooooooo much better (Jack and Honest share a Japanese VA). Yuusei's English voice I can live with - it's a little high for my liking, but he's at least making an attempt to do it well, so. Ushio... I'm still just laughing at the fact that DAN GREEN is Ushio, when Dan Green is also Atem. Didn't Atem kinda knock Ushio into a penalty game 20-30-something years before 5Ds started?
And Rally's VA. RALLY's VA. I did a double take - that's LYSERG. I SWEAR IT'S LYSERG. (Which looks weird when typed in capslock...)
I heard about the plot changes before they came, so I was ready for them. Doesn't make them any less wrong though. (I'm not even going to attempt to comment on the name (and, in some cases, personality) changes I heard about for Aki and the twins... I'm STILL confused about the twins.)
In other words, I'm probably not going to watch the dub all too too much (mostly because even though D knows about my anime obsession I don't want to drag her into it if she doesn't want to), but... yeah.
I'm still holding onto a slim hope that they'll dub GX season 4. Not because I think they'll do any better with it - heck, I know that it'll get screwed up even more than everything else. I just wanna know what Yusuke's dub name will be so I can mock it. I want to hear him in English. I want to hear Honest in English. I WANT THE FUBUKI EPICNESS TO COME TO THE US, EVEN IF IT STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN. (And it will, if it happens, if their treatment of 89 is anything to go by.)
