There is a rash of memes mostly on FB that go something like this. "I love xyz group of people who have suffered oppression, torture, social ostracism, discrimination etc. If you love xyz too, repost this in your status." Current examples that I've seen in the last week include LGBTQ people, cancer survivors or people who have died from cancer and their relatives, anyone who has been bullied and Republicans. Ok, one of those isn't true, but you get the point.
I must here state that I object to these memes, particularly when they include things like "97% of people will not repost this, but the 3% who are my true friends will," or words to this effect. Excuse me? When did the ability to use the cut/paste command become the true test of friendship? I choose to express my love in, well, to me at any rate more significant ways, like talking, cuddling, helping you move, not minding if your eyes leak all over my shirt, you know actually living the dream. If you will judge me, then please do so by the place I hold in the hearts of people who are LGBTQ, who are, or know people who have had cancer or been bullied and harmed as children. Ask me how I feel about bullying of any sort. But please do not attempt to manipulate me into cheap theatrics in a Facebook post.
Thank you, and you can take me off your nice persons list if you must.
