Another Maternity Complaint

So here's a question: why are commercial pattern-makers such twits??? I consulted with the ladies at Jo-Ann's (figured they would know since they always ask you what you're making when you get cloth cut), and they all agreed that NO ONE makes regular everyday clothes. (Except Bobby's Aunt Kit, and she's not average.) People only make: 1) Special occasion clothing, 2) the occasional cute baby thing, 3) costumes, and 4) crafts such as quilts and banners, etc. And yet the pattern books are FULL of patterns for fairly dull, regular clothes: dresses, pant suits, nightgowns, even men's button-down shirts. However, when faced with a $45 price tag for a maternity top you'll only be wearing briefly, you start to think you should just make some of those. After all, so many of the things in the stores are made of ugly plastic fabric, and you would finally have a chance to use all those pretty prints that Elizabethan clothing just doesn't seem to call for. So you trot yourself down to the local fabric store and find THREE patterns. Total, from all the companies. Simplicity, Vogue, and McCalls had none. The one time I want to make everyday clothes, and no options. What the heck, really???
