Corporations as People

(quote borrowed from polyfrog's comment on rosefox's post about corrupted officials)

Abraham Lincoln, 1864:
"As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety than ever before, even in the midst of war. God grant that my suspicions may prove groundless."

So people worried about the corporate undead and the super-rich even back then. *sigh*

This is an even bigger problem when you consider the current accumulation of copyrights & patents by corporations. Money is not the only type of wealth; likewise the death of the author/creator cannot end ownership in the same finite way "normal" copyright does.

(Yes, I know that there is a limit currently set on corporate and personal/estate copyrights, but both have been extended too far.)
