I am absolutely devastated by the Mets loss yesterday. All season, I could not possibly have even imagined that they would not be playing October baseball.
Though Saturday morning, I had a gut feeling that they would win big on Saturday and blow it on Sunday. It had just become the way that they rolled.
Even though I'm absolutely depressed, I still watched the wild card tiebreaker today. I love baseball. I love it more when my team is playing or when another team is beating the Yankees, but today's game was definitely a good one. Even though I usually dislike the Rockies, I decided that I would root for them against the Padres. The Rockies made an amazing showing to come from almost last place in their division to battling it out for the wild card. In the bottom of the 13th, the Rockies won 9-8. It was really a great game.
I'm afraid Willie Randolph may be out of a job. I really like him. I think he's a great guy. And while I think the bullpen deserves the most blame for the complete collapse of the Mets, I did not see Willie Randolph make any changes whatsoever when the Mets started on their downward spiral. Even if the changes didn't work, he could have at least tried different approaches. I think it might be goodbye to Willie. And probably goodbye to Carlos Delgado. I really like him too. He's just getting old. And now he has a broken wrist. He definitely wasn't as good this season as he was in 2006. Plus, the Mets have a lot of older players so they can't afford to have so many players that are prone to injury. I really wouldn't mind seeing Lastings Milledge traded for a pitcher. Obviously, he would probably have to be packaged with someone else to get a quality pitcher and I don't know who else they would put with him. In the end though, I would rather have Gomez than Milledge.
And bye bye Tom Glavine. I felt bad for him until after the game he said he wasn't devastated, just a little disappointed. You singlehandedly gave up 7 runs in the first inning. That was not the way to win points with the fans. Disgusting.
Anyway, my throat is starting to hurt a little so I think it's time for bed.
