Techology pains

Because I was worried about saving documents and found it too difficult to do with CDs, last week my brother Chris helped me pick out an external hard drive (now hooked up) and a spankin' new VCR/DVD player to replace my old VCR, now dead. *wipes sentimental tear*. Together they cost about $335.00.  Ouch, but I'm very glad to have it.  Now I can play my old tapes and even transfer them to DVD format (when I learn how).

On a less 'fun' note, yesterday I spent nearly 2+ hours on the phone with Telus (my internet/phone provider with two techies trying to get rid of spyware (Micro Anti-Virus 2009), which caused several pop-ups urging me to 'fix' my problem with their product.  I had it more nearly 2 weeks.  First I had to apply for the Telus firewall (I thought I already had it, but you have to get a code from the Telus people during business hours in the week, not weekends, so I never had time unless I called them at work and then used the code later at home.  I got a techie to walk me through the steps then he had to transfer me to another guy to get rid of the virus.  It took over an hour (through a LiveChat and phone conversation so that I could give him remote access to my machine and get rid of the darned things.  Later I found out that there were 198 viruses (which he said wasn't nearly as bad as the ones he had to deal with in the past).  Killing the viruses cost $80, but at least now my computer is clean and sober. ;)

Then I found out that they also help with other technology, Like. My. Printer-Scanner.  It cost $40, but the printer works.  I haven't tried scanning yet, so I hope that works too.  $120 was a nasty sum to pay, but I'm just so happy and relieved to have working toys that I don't mind.  ;)
