I'm pretty choked at Gaby (again). Came to work on Xmas Eve (for a half-day, since the building closes at 2pm -- but Gerry (the boss) always lets us leave earlier at 1pm. Since Janine (reception) and Evenna (who covers for her) were both on holidays, Gaby had to man the phones -- so guess who was asked to do the outbaskets? I really had no choice because we were short-staffed, and now wasn't the time for a rebellion. ;-)
What made me mad:
I walked by the reception desk and saw that Keri, one of the secretaries, was answering phones. She was ticked because Gaby had likely gone for a full lunch-hour (instead of a short break, since it was a half-day). Keri couldn't do her own work until Gaby returned, so she was stuck. Not sure that Gaby realized that a lunch hour was a no-no on half-days, but I thought it was sneaky anyway.
Whate made me madder:
I'd been killing myself doing Gaby's job and trying to catch up on my more pressing email messages. Around 1pm, I saw an email from her, asking if it was okay if I did her outbaskets this Thursday and Friday, since she 'hadn't really gotten a Christmas vacation' and to please let her know before the end of the day ("I hope it doesn't interfere with your work."). I nearly exploded at the nerve of her request: "No freakin' way!"
After a moment, I made myself calm down enough to email her back, then realized that she probably wouldn't read it until who-knew-when, so I buzzed her, reminded her of her email (she was busy posting mail on the postage machine, so I had to compete with a background "Ka-chunk! Ka-chunk!") and politely said, "Sorry, I really can't. I have too much of my own work to do."
Gaby: "Oh, okay. Thanks." and that was that.
Well, today it's snowing hard, and I have to leave early to make a meeting at 9am. She had better not call in sick because it's snowing too hard to get to work. I am not doing her job today. Forget it. I'll tell Lisa (the admin) outright.
