Sooooo, I ended up getting 45.5/50 points on my competency. I needed 38.5 or more points to pass. I was a little off on where to palpate for edema on the anterior tibia (slightly to the side of the bone, rather than directly ON the bone) so I missed one point. I missed a point because I forgot to assess for pain at the beginning, and did so at the end. Same deal with vital signs. A little bit of a dumb reason to lose 2 points, but I can live with it.....and I understand why I lost the points because I did it at the end of the exam.
The last point and a half that I lost REALLY frustrated me (with myself). We were allowed to ask questions today before we started our competency, so I went in about 15 minutes early to ask a few questions......two of the questions that I asked and had answered --- I forgot to DO as part of the assessment (capillary refill, and the question of do we have to actually wash our hands for this competency or do we just have to state that we would wash our hands before doing anything). I'm just frustrated because I had them both on my mind RIGHT before the start of the competency and I totally forgot them.
Like, I knew the entire competency well (and went blank when I started the competency.....) but I'm not so much frustrated that I forgot the vitals/pain til later, so much as the capillary refill and handwashing as I hadn't JUST made a huge deal with questions about that :-P
But. I guess I shouldn't feel too bad. It's still a 91%, and most importantly -- I PASSED MY FIRST COMPETENCY!!
