That sound? Would the sound of somebody who didn't get a phone call last night. Somebody who might be just twitchy enough to call now even though he's been avoiding it so far so he didn't draw attention to Bridge's phone at a bad time. Somebody who might get just a little paranoid about not hearing from people.

"Um, hi?" Bridge answers the phone with that sort of forced casualness that's supposed to hide the fact that he feels totally guilty about not calling last night but really doesn't do the trick at all.

"Well," Bridge says slowly. "It's not so much lack of cell reception as... they sort of took away my phone? And then the payphone was like 'sorry, no long distance calls for you' only it didn't actually talk because phones don't do that."
