Bookworms are sexy.

During the past 2 months while I was exiled, I made good use of my time reviving my love of reading. Since I didn't have an internet connection or cable to occupy my time, I devoured books at a neck snapping pace. In fact, when I was out visiting my mom on one of my excursions back to civilization, I spent $4 on 20 books at the Goodwill. They were a whopping .99 cents for 5. Good stuff.

Here are my recent reads:

Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton
The first of an extensive series of vampire slayer fiction. Anita Blake is wickedly cool. I'm glad I have 5 more of the series to read because I really enjoyed this introductory story.

Rumspringa: To Be or Not to Be Amish by Tom Shachtman
An interesting glimpse into a relatively unknown practice in the Amish culture that allows children to have a period of freedom from church rules and sanctions when they turn 16. It's full of insightful interviews from all different members of the community includng parents, children and elders. It gives the perspectives of those who choose to stay in the church and those who decide to leave.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
The Classic story of 4 sisters who are working towards fixing their character flaws and living in harmony as a family along with their parents, a kindly maid and interesting neighbors. Along the way they experience lives full of love, charity, adventure and friendship. I absolutely love this story and relate so much to Jo. Anyone who's seen the movie with Wynona Ryder (Jo), Claire Danes (Beth), Susan Sarandon (Marmee) & Christian Bale (Laurie) should give the book a look. It's really good.

Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks
The story of a Marine who finds a photo of a woman in the desert and starts to believe it's like a lucky charm for him. When he gets out of the Marines he makes it his mission in life to find her. It kept me riveted, but most of Nicholas Sparks stories do.

Currently reading: A Wedding in December by Anita Shreve

It's about a group of friends from highschool who come together to celebrate the wedding of 2 of the group 20 years after they've graduated. Many of them who haven't seen each other since highschool. It touches on the lives they're living, the ones they wished they were living and the decisions they make towards finding happiness in the present. So far it's been an ok read.

Not sure what's on the agenda next, but I have plenty to choose from. Maybe I can unearth the rest of my Anita Blake series. That'd be sweet.
