We now pause for a tiny little work rant

”When those in authority, teachers, for example, forced children to do things that made no sense to them, problems with authority arose.”

“Having to complete work that is boring can be like torture to these [gifted] kids…”

So just to tie some of the previous post into my daily life. I’ve been working on edits to the Emergency Action Plan we’re writing for our 800 pound gorilla of a client. And honestly? This is complete bullshit.

Do we really need an emergency procedure for what to do when you “Come across an associate or tenant that appears to be dead.”? Especially a procedure that does NOT include “Check to see if they have a pulse.”?!?!?!

Yesterday I also edited procedures for the following events: nuclear accidents, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions. I’m all for having actual plans in place for any emergency, but how often do you run into these situations? And these procedures are so generic as to be practically useless. Which is why editing them is pretty much torture for me.

In an actual emergency, most people will panic and run around like chickens with their heads cut off. No one will think to pull out the Emergency Action Plan to see what their corporate overlords have decreed they should do. And anyone who does will be disgusted by how generic and useless these procedures are. This is busywork. And it’s crap. It’s a waste of my time, and the customer’s money. But they have to have this stuff in place to pass some sort of audit. *eyeroll* This is what corporate America wastes their time and money on.

On the other hand, there is some comfort in knowing that the reason why I find things like this to be tedious and stupid are not just because I’m a cranky bitch.

Well, maybe I am some days. ;-)
