Sunday morning my alarm went off. I got out of bed, blew my nose several times, then crawled right back into bed. Stephen’s straight razor demo was at 10:00, but I felt like crap and I’ve seen him give it twice now. When I woke up again it was already 10:00, and I knew that I was definitely going to miss the demo. I didn’t know when checkout was, but it’s usually around 11:00, so I made myself get up. A hot shower and some more Dayquil helped a little, but not as much as I would have liked. I struggled to think through what I needed to check while I was packing (TSA is not confiscating any of my gear dammit!). I was glad that I’d brought another duffle for the fabric, and actually it made it a little easier to close the suitcase this time. I ended up wearing my new hat, because what else was I going to do with it?
I dragged my bags downstairs, and the Bristol guys (god bless ‘em) let me stash them behind their display. They always take such good care of us. I can’t tell you how many times this weekend I asked them “Have you seen my friends?” Like it’s their job to keep track of where my party is at all times. Heh.
I saw Alena first, coming back from their demo. They hadn’t checked out yet, so everyone went back up to their rooms to pack. I asked Stephen to bring the car key with him when they came back down. And then I went off in search of food, only to discover that I’d missed breakfast in the restaurant. Poopies. So I hit the gift shop and bought an iced tea. I’d packed snacks for the weekend, so I had some of the peanut butter and crackers from my bag for breakfast. Not like I could taste much of anything by this point, I just wanted something in my belly.
When I finished breakfast I went back into the dealer’s room. I visited “my hat” again. I chatted with the lady again, and admired her taste in fabric and trim again. And then I just finally broke down and asked her for her card. I want to do a Regency outfit (I bought patterns from Kass to make one) and that gives me an excuse to purchase a hat from her. Of course, that means that I need to have the outfit done in time, and do the research to find a hat that I want made, and order it in time for the next Reenactor Fest. By the time I made it back out to the hallway again, someone had thoughtfully loaded my luggage into the car for me. And the Bristol guys (still keeping track for me) told me that Stephen and Alena had gone to get lunch in the restaurant.
I found them in the restaurant and joined them in their booth. A little while after we ordered, Tom and Amanda joined us. I had a yummy burger with cheese and avocado. Ummmmm. I figured it would probably be the only hot meal I was going to have all day, what with missing breakfast and I didn’t really figure I’d find a decent dinner at the airport.
After lunch we wandered the dealer’s room again, mostly just chatting with folks here and there and starting to say goodbye. We ended up sitting around on chairs in the hall while the Bristol guys broke down their display. I was quite impressed when I saw that their
armor rack broke down completely into a
small pile of lumber. We have got to get the plans for one of those!
Lisa and Lynn showed up and joined the general conversation. The pyrates were breaking down the bar and offered us fruit. So everyone sat around eating apples and lemons and limes. I was disappointed to find out that Lisa probably won’t be at the next ReenactorFest, her pyrate crew has a conflict that weekend. But, when I heard that they were going to be paid to be in Florida, and have a real live boat to play on, I completely understood! Kass showed up and parked herself on the floor. At some point (and it might not have been Sunday) she’d commented that I always look like I’m up to something. Heh, that’s because I often am. ;-)
We finally decided that we should get out of everyone’s way. After much hugging, we piled into the mini-SUV and headed back to the airport. We forgot to put gas in the car before we checked in. D’oh! And when we got to the airline check-in I realized that my Nalgene bottle was nearly full of iced tea. I started drinking while we were waiting in line, but ended up dumping the majority of it in a handy potted plant. I made sure that (just in case anyone saw me) that I drank the last bit.
There was a long line at security, so they sent us down to the next check point which had no line. But instead of letting us short cut through the security tapes, they made us walk all over creation to get there. And once we got through, we realized that the first security check point was much closer to the gates we needed to be at. Whatever. The security guys all loved my top hat. Our group actually had a bit of trouble getting through security. They gave Stephen the wrong forms for his gun case (he didn’t have any ammo with him) and they decided that there was something sinister with Amanda’s leftover pie and had to unpack it and scan it twice.
We walked all over the place looking for somewhere to eat, but there wasn’t any sit down dining that seemed affordable. We finally just grabbed some Starbucks and sat at their gate on concourse B. My flight took off about 20 minutes after everyone else from concourse C, but we had a couple hours to kill. We sat and talked over the convention, and future plans. We discovered that the TSA had smashed Amanda’s leftover pie when they re-packed her bag. Luckily it was discovered before she got berry pie all over the inside of her bag. I found out when S and A are closing on the house, and marked their moving weekend on my calendar. At one point the conversation turned to sewing (and slashing) landsknecht costumes. Since I had the laptop out, I decided to show them some of the amazing landsknecht photos I’d found on a European Web site. We all drooled over them for a while, and Stephen pointed out all sorts of details.
They announced that they gate for the flight to Providence had changed, so we had to pack up all our gear and schlep to another gate. It was getting close to my flight time, so after I walked them to their gate, there were many hugs and I headed off to concourse C. While I was buying myself another drink I was asked if I was in a wedding? *giggles*
I found a pillow and blanket on my seat on the plane (yay! Someone was looking out for me) and I slept the entire flight home. Where, again, security loved the top hat. Hee! I got home around 11:30, which was actually earlier than I expected.
