I've never understood why manager's think that yelling at someone will get them motivated to work harder. My previous manager would yell at me at least once or twice a week, then give me an excellent performance review at review time. I dreaded going to work most of the time and was so grateful that I could 'retire' and go off to work for someone I knew wouldn't be bitching at me constantly. And then the 'yelling' manager got transferred to another store and the employees there made her work as a crew person for a week or so before they would let her do her managerial work. I wanted to go up and hug every one of them!
I think it's the difference between "leadership" and "management". Management sees you as an asset that needs monitoring, leadership sees you as a human being that needs direction.
