Time for a Facebook Vacation again

It’s like Lent in October.

I really don’t like how Halloween has changed from a gentle dress-up in costumes holiday into a screaming horror and fright holiday. I mean, there were always ghosts and haunted houses, but things just seem to have gotten bloodier and scarier with more axe murderers and zombies lately. My morning radio show has ads for haunted houses and woods and factories that feature terrifying screams. Cable stations run 31 days of slasher films. And my Halloween loving friends on Facebook start decorating their houses in September.

So I’ve been starting to think that between my horror-loving gothy friends celebrating a month of Halloween, and all the real-life horror that is Donald Trump, that I need to step away from Facebook for a bit. The thought of a Trump presidency makes me want to curl up in a ball and hide under the covers until it's all over. I was seriously considering asking my doctor for anti-anxiety meds in the middle of the summer, when he was doing well in the polls.

I know I’ll still be obsessively checking FiveThirtyEight and reading the New York Times and Washington Post to reassure myself that Trump is still losing. But by staying off Facebook I’ll be able to avoid the steady stream of artificial outrage and scare quotes from the progressive press (DailyKos, AlterNet, OccupyDemocrats, RawStory, ThinkProgress) that my progressive liberal friends share on a daily basis.

It’s going to be a rough couple of weeks. New job. Faire. Halloween. Election stress.

I hope I make it to Thanksgiving.
