I have arrived in NC and I'm all checked into my hotel room. New Employer has me checked into the Hilton (it's an overflow hotel, not their usual). But there's at least three of us here for new hire orientation this week (I eavesdrop, no point not putting these big ears to good use).
I'm on the "Hilton HHonors floor". No, that's not a typo, that's actually how they spell it. *eyeroll* I'm feeling pretty swanky at the moment in my king sized bed surrounded by my huge pile of fluffy white pillows.
Of course, I chose to read Dan Lyons "Disrupted: My Misadventures in the Start-Up Bubble" on the plane. I'm glad I held off reading it until I had a little bit of distance from The Place, because whoa, they have so many of the same problems and dysfunctions as HubSpot. Now I'm feeling all cynical about that job. We'll have to see if I can behave myself when I make conversation this week and not let the book leach into conversation. Because wow, he's pretty savage about how a lot of start-up culture is complete smoke and mirrors and selling snake oil. And he's not necessarily wrong (how the heck did Uber become a $60 Billion dollar company with no assets, no product, and a mostly part-time staff?).
