When I got into the office yesterday, I noticed that the guy who sits facing me had left his computer on his desk, which isn’t something that I’d noticed before. And then, a little bit later, one of the other guys in the office came over and was talking about how he wanted to steal his monitor.
My mind immediately flashed to how Dilbert has a whole bunch of strips about scavenging after an employee leaves a company.
And I wondered, had Andrew left The Place? So I asked. And yep, Friday (when I worked at home) was his last day. I checked his LinkedIn profile, and he’d been at The Place for ten months, which probably makes him one of the more senior people considering how quickly the company has exploded in growth recently.
It takes me forever to learn names and feel comfortable with people. And not only was he one of the first people to introduce himself to me, I’d been out to lunch with him already, and his was one of the first names I’d learned.
Three weeks in and I’ve already made and lost a friend. *Sighs* Startup life is not for the weak.
