One of my big goals for this year is to make an effort to write (almost) every day. And to finish up the large number of stories that I’ve started and not finished. At this point I’ve got three half-written NaNoWriMo novels that need finishing, as well as a ton of WIP (work in progress) fanficiton stories that I’d like to finally get around to publishing.
So I spent some time Sunday organizing my WIP folders: renaming files, consolidating files, listing all my partially written stories in a spreadsheet so I could see what to work on first (i.e. what has the highest word count and should really get finished first?). All total, I have almost a quarter of a million words (yes, almost 250,000 words) in notes, ideas, and story drafts (the math might not add up here, because there’s stuff I didn’t list):
Pacific Rim notes and draft stories = 120,300 words (includes unfinished NaNo 2013 novel)
2015 NaNoWriMo draft (contemporary romance novel) = 50,400 words
Black Widow/Hawkeye notes and draft stories = 39,400 words
Peggy Carter/Captain America notes and draft stories = 14,400 words
2011-2012 NaNoWriMo draft (historical romance novel) = 12,600 words
Killjoys notes and draft stories =3,400 words
I’ve got a plan for what I want to write this year. And it’s a very do-able plan. I want to finish two of the half-finished novels and publish eight short stories (fanfiction WIP) this year. Because I didn’t abandon these stories because they were crap or I wrote myself into a corner or I didn’t know where they were going. I just abandoned them because I got busy, I’d already written the easy/fun parts, or I found something newer and shinier to be interested in. Or I got another story idea. =P
I also did some writing this weekend. Maybe about 1,000 words on Friday (it’s hard to tell, I was moving so much stuff around). And another 1,800 or so on Sunday. Sunday I was working on a story that I’ve already got over 10K words written on, but I didn’t quite have an ending yet. Sunday I had the idea for the ending in the shower, so that was good. Yay shower ideas! (I always seem to get ideas in the bathroom). Now to keep working on it. I think I can possibly get it finished by next weekend if I work on it steadily this week. Go me!
