Leonardo DiCaprio is getting rave reviews for his new movie The Revenant. According to the trailer that I’ve seen, it’s about a man seeking revenge for against the man who stole his son from him.

Would we have seen this movie made if it was about a man seeking vengeance for his daughter?

Bill Cosby has finally been arrested and charged with aggravated indecent assault. All it took was almost 60 women coming forward with strikingly similar stories of him drugging and abusing or raping them. *sighs* And we wonder why it’s so hard to prosecute rape cases.

CBS Sunday Morning had a piece on about Kate Winslett this morning. She’s getting Oscar buzz for her role in Steve Jobs. She’s been nominated for an Academy Award six times and this movie could be her seventh nomination, but the piece mostly focused on her looks, her being teased for being chubby as a child, her refusal to allow Lancome to airbrush her photos, and not as much about the film as I would have liked. Why is it that the media still insists, in 2015, on focusing on an actress’ looks, no matter how talented they are?

Contrast it with the story they did a few minutes later about Lily Tomlin, where they didn’t talk about her looks at all, but focused on her comedic talent and her new movie. *sighs* I guess it’s the difference between leading lady and character actor/comedian?

Natalie Cole died this week. She was only 65, which seems to be way too young. Until I read the Wikipedia article about her father, who died of lung cancer at age 45.

Speaking of people dying too young, CBS Sunday Morning also informed me that Elvis would have been 81 next Thursday. We’re getting close to him having been dead longer than he was alive (he died at age 42). It’s weird reading through his Wikipedia entry, because he was a teen sensation who somehow kept his career going even when he got old and fat. I wonder if Justin Beiber will be able to pull off anything like that? Most teen stars end up burning out and disappearing. (Anyone else remember my first live concert, teen heartthrob Shaun Cassidy? Probably as famous for being a Hardy Boy as for his singing career.)

One of the best things about my waffle recipe is being able to pull leftover waffles out of the freezer and enjoying them. Mmmmm, waffles!
