Monday - Getting Things Done

Aug 11, 2015 09:43

Monday Monday.

The plan was to get up and find my “gnarly writing samples” for the recruiter. And as I was tucking myself into bed Sunday night I realized I had the perfect thing. I wrote up a process for one of our products at BlackOps, what was going on “under the covers” as it were when you published data to the index. It was so geeky that we didn’t end up publishing it, but Work Husband had said he was impressed at how well I’d distilled a very complex process.

Of course, when I got up in the morning, I couldn’t find what I was looking for in any of my files. I didn’t even save a copy of that particular project on my last day. I might have other backups floating around, but of course, while I was mucking around on my harddrive looking for other places I might have copies of work files, I got totally distracted by other things. Somehow I got sidetracked to trying to track down all of my offer letters for all my jobs, because I didn’t have all my salary data in one place (it’s in multiple Word docs and Excel spreadsheets). Clearly, my physical house is not the only mess that I need to try to clean up this summer. =P

After lunch I got back to sorting through the junk from under the Wet Bar. I had a couple of small boxes with dividers, and all the random screws and nails went into the little dividers. So now instead of plastic bags and ziplocks and lots of random little boxes of fasteners, I have two boxes: one for screws and one for nails.

I took a break to order some 1920s patterns and fabric for the 1920s outfit I’m planning. And I bought my ticket for the Gatsby on the Isles cruise in three weeks. I’m very much looking forward to it. What I end up wearing will partly depend on which fabric that I ordered shows up first. But since I also bought the “one hour dress” booklet, I’m pretty sure I’ll manage to not be naked that day. *grins*

I actually cooked dinner tonight. And in did something that required more effort than just microwaving a Lean Cuisine. I made pasta primavera, and it was pretty dammed tasty too. Could use some chicken though, I might pick some up to add to the leftovers. I’ve even done the dishes already (go me!).

Then I started tackling the computer media. I sorted through all the software and computer backup discs. Then I weeded through all the CDs and DVDs. All the blank DVDs went in one pile, anything with data on it went into another pile to go through again later. Some of this stuff was just burning CDs to move files from one computer to another, so I might already have the files on my laptop and backups.

I still need to wipe down everything in and on the wet bar. Even the vases IN the cabinet are way dusty. Holy crap, my house is so damned dusty. But I should have it all done, everything sorted and put back in the cabinets, in pretty short order. Well, other than what will probably be the slow process of going through all the files.

the big purge, shopping, fabric, julie's summer vacation, housework
