I just saw over on Facebook that CTRF has moved sites. No more Lion's Fairground. This fall they're going to be at Dodd's Stadium at 14 Stott Avenue Norwich, CT. WTF? I've pulled it up on Google Maps, and it's a freaking baseball stadium. How the heck is that going to work?
I just don't see how we can have a renaissance faire in a baseball stadium. I have no idea how the heck this is supposed to work. There is no way this isn't a smaller site. How will vendors be able to set up tents if the only field is a baseball diamond? They can't pound stakes in the parking lot. Where exactly are we supposed to have the joust? Do they really want to allow horses to stomp all over that well groomed grass?
And how the heck is the Guild supposed to have their encampment? Will we be able to put up our tents? Will we be able to leave them up during the week? Will we be allowed to have a campfire for cooking?
Other changes, no more King Arthur, they're going to Henry VIII (which of course means that Rich will no longer be king, I'm quite sure David Stickney will snag that role for himself). And parking will be free (as it should be). [ETA - Also no mention of Halloween Knights, so no more late nights?]
Somehow I feel pretty safe declaring that this faire has probably jumped the shark. The site is farther away from the main population centers in CT than the old site (which was pretty close to Hartford). This is not a growth move. *le sigh*
