If you feel like reading about bus rides, asshole coaches and the difference between boys and girls track
I have to say that this week was a long one. With two track meets (that's a lot of sun and one quick thunderstorm delay), I didn't know if I would survive. Hehe. I can't believe I used to do all this, AND actually do the running, too!!
My kids are amazed at the things I did when I was in high school. They've gotten over the awe of my out of shape self once doing the hurdles. I surprised them again when I told them I, at one time, could run the 800 in 2:32.00. I had to laugh. I don't know if I will ever be in that great of shape again, but it's nice to think about the fact that I have done it.
The boys on our team are very good. They have talent out the wazoo, they work pretty hard and they are a true joy to watch. The girls are a different story. There is a lot of talent, but the work ethic is lacking and the wining is in excess. I think they are starting to get our point when we say, if you don't give us something to talk about, then we will find someone who will. We didn't even take a 4 x 400 to the last meet for girls. It would have been pointless. We expect them to improve greatly in the next two weeks, so we aren't embarrassed at the home meet. I think they have the picture. (Of course, I was much nicer about this when I said it directly to them.)
I am very pissed off at the 7th grade coaches. This is probably the most exhausting part of the week. They are 3 men who make my life a little trying. Bingham likes to tell our runners that they don't have to do what we tell them to. I have noticed a lot of things lately. Burns for example will talk to us like we are stupid and don't know what's going on! Sorry, this is my sport, the thing I was good at!! He's such a jerk and it's because I lack that one piece of equipment that he THINKS is equivalent to brains! Webster isn't bad, yet. I had more respect for Bingham until yesterday when he told several of our runners to drop events we told them to run! AHHH!!!
The other exhausting part are the bus drives! Yikes. I don't remember being so annoying on a bus. The boys are giving each other "hot pockets" (something new I just learned), and other gross stuff. The girls screech and giggle. Hehe.
