Yeah the illustration that Al Franken used that made me kind of agree with AA is this:
If you're a track coach and you have 2 guys trying out for the team... one is fast with great technique holds his body up perfectly gets efficient energy use out of every stride and runs in expensive shoes. Then you have a fast guy with holey shoes, bad form, arms flailing running fractions of a second slower of a time than the other guy. Which should make the team... The answer is the second guy because the first guy was well coached and was close to the peak of his potential, the second guy on the other had was still almost as fast and when you coach him to run correctly and efficiently he will blow away the other guy.
School systems are kind of like that, inner-city kids have bad teachers, old text books, no technology training and might even have to work a job to help support a single mom or brothers and sisters... if this kid pulls an 1150 on the SAT, no kid from the burbs with his seminars and good education scoring a 1200 should push the other kid out. I think Affirmative Action belongs in schools, and also in low income (non-skilled labor) jobs.
But if you're hiring someone and you require a 4 year degree and 2 guys a white guy and a black guy from the same school go up for the job... why does that need to be equalized? They had the same opportunities. AA in the corporate world is an inherently racist thing.
