heh thanks. i'm just really really lucky. because of my mom pretty much from birth i was raised in a signing environment, and since i have a little sister, she pretty much learned sign too. so yeah our house is pretty ASL-friendly. then with my mom's education (a MA in deaf ed pretty much) she was able to help me a LOT through elementary school, get a good grasp on english. i'm not super smart, i just had to work REALLY hard! most Deaf people of hearing parents don't have those opportunities which really hinders their language development. i'm very blessed.
i think about it sometimes. even though i'm proud of being Deaf and using sign, i'm more in the hearing community. but right now i feel like it would take a ton of effort as far as speech classes and stuff and i'm pretty okay with my life as it is. maybe later when i'm in the "real" world looking for jobs and not as dependent on my mom and sister and the rest of my family. i may reconsider then :-)
oh totally! i'm one of the few Deaf of hearing that was never considered for a CI which kind of makes me a weirdo. if i can think of anything else about my thoughts on CIs i'll let you know! it's bed time and brain is fuzzy.
