Adding to the crazy amount of Yuletide recs on my flist (there were so many that when I came across a post on
fatshionista where someone said that they had bought their tights on eBay, I thought that eBay was a Yuletide fandom... it's early okay).... here are a few of mine!

A Measure of Devotion [Whip It, Pash & Bliss]
Bliss visits Pash in New York City after a year apart, but she's afraid that things may not be the same.
"Yes, duh!" Pash slapped her head. "I can't wait to show you my shithole! There are roaches, Bliss, actual New York roaches! Isn't that classic?"
This isn't Pash/Bliss romantic fic (except for it kind of does have that subtexty feel, but whatever)-it's better than that! It is best friend fic! Oh my gosh, and this is the best kind of best friend fic-so much of it is so real, I feel like everything Bliss thinks about Pash is exactly how I feel about my closest friends, whether they my longtime, six, seven, eight year friends, or my still incredibly close college friends. And ahhhh Pash is so well done! PASH IS THE BEST THE END. :D

Searching for Something that Makes Hearts Move [Whip It, Pash/Maggie Mayhem, Pash & Bliss]
Pash adjusts the strap of her backpack, double-checks the rainbow button on the front.
Pash sits down on the floor next to Maggie. They start separating all the Legos, putting them in a giant tupperware container. "Well," she says, "Superman did rescue GI Joe by teaming up with--why does Riley have a David Bowie action figure?"
"Technically it's Jareth," Maggie says.
"No, Riley was pretty clear that it's Bowie." Pash tries to keep a straight face. She concentrates on a little Lego wizard. "He and Superman had to perform Under Pressure to save GI Joe from Evil Batman. There was choreography."
"So my kid knows real music instead of Kidz Bop or Miley Cyrus," Maggie says, "So sue me."
From what it seems after the previous Whip It rec and this one, I may just like Whip It because I like when the friendships/relationships I see in canon/fanon reflect mine a lot. Which, lol, I say that like everyone doesn't feel that way-anyway, the way Pash and Bliss work in this fic is scarily similar to the way one of my friends and I work in real life, down to the overly familiar annoyance at a million little things and acting like we're dating around 90% of the time even though she's quite straight.
Other great things about this fic: Pash is bi! I am beginning to really like when characters are bi in fic. Even better when they are apparent serial monogamists or whatever, like Pash in this fic! And I can't believe it but I am actually very fond of the Pash/Maggie thing. When I first opened the fic I was like "um... okay whatevs" but now I legit like it! And I am really glad that the Pash/Bliss friendship is what matters most here. Best fraaaands~
Two more Whip It fics, both of which are readable (and I liked them both a lot; I just didn't love them as much as the previous two):
-
Show Me Your Teeth [Whip It, Pash/Bliss, explicit]
Post-movie, Pash and Bliss tentatively flirt which leads to more.
-
Purple [Whip It, Pash/Bliss]
When she had been in high school, Bliss had thought that escaping from Bodeen and the beauty pageant circuit and getting to avoid real college would be so perfect that she wouldn't ever be unhappy. But it was hard for her to make friends at work, and her derby friends didn't know how to talk about anything else. Bliss kind of sucked at making friends, but she almost didn't need them, 'cause she still had Pash.

all your heart-melodies [Lilo & Stitch, Lilo]
At seven, Lilo wants to grow up to be an intergalactic space hero.
Stitch shows her how to build plasma guns (Nani puts them on a high shelf), how to rig up a can opener and a radio into a machine that will open a portal to an alternate universe (Nani says she can't do it in the house) and how to first swallow and then regurgitate useful objects, like handcuff keys or quarters (Nani, though disgusted, can't help but be impressed).
It's probably too early BUT I think I can safely say this is one of my top favorite fics to come out of Yuletide 2009. It's kind of a five-things deal, all things Lilo wishes she could be when she grows up, and oh my gosh, :D I love her so much. My friends were telling me the other day how when Lilo & Stitch came out we were actually too old to get too excited about it (it was 2002 so I was thirteen or fourteen, I think) but that is sad because Lilo & Stitch is so great, guys, so great, and this writer did a perfect job of capturing Lilo's quirks, Stitch's loyalty, and the whole ohana thing. :) I cried a little bit, as a warning, but the ending is the actual best. :D

A Perfect Honeymoon [Some Like It Hot, Daphne/Osgood, explicit]
Daphne and Osgood enjoy their wedding night.
They hadn’t really spoken about it, but something had changed between them that night in the speedboat. Taking off her wig, knowing that it was all about to come to an end, she’d felt relieved but also unexpectedly sad. Like she’d lost something she hadn’t even known she’d wanted. And then, against all expectations, it didn't come to an end. A whole new set of doors had opened. The idea that Osgood knew the truth and still wanted her…it sent a charge through her entire body, making her feel desirable and tender and strangely safe.
Holy shit, I love this. I mean, first of all it's Some Like It Hot fic, and, you know, Some Like It Hot is only one of the best movies ever. Second of all, ahhhhh, just, okay. So. It's Daphne/Osgood-and it's very good at being both Daphne/Osgood, and in a way, Jerry/Osgood. There is crossdressing which is not all that surprising, given the canon, but it's more than crossdressing, there is the whole performance/queer identity thing going on and I am going to stop my Bryn Mawr self right now and NOT talk about gender for once. BUT I think this fic was very well done especially since the movie is like the queerest thing ever written! And I am even not creeped out by Osgood for once! Additionally, I like weddings and honeymoons.

Wild Card Inside [iCarly, Sam/Carly]
The best laid plans always go awry.
Sam's application is full of doodles, her transcript filled with borderline criminal charges and her admissions essay is a crumpled paper napkin from the Groovy Smoothie.
"Sam, 'let me in or I'll beat you up' is not an acceptable essay," Carly sighs when she reads the napkin.
"Seems pretty straightforward to me," Sam says obstinately.
So...I've mentioned how much I love best friends? That's kind of why I love iCarly so much. (That and the characters are great and it makes me laugh with its stupid sense of humor and Jennette McCurdy's hair is beautiful.) So in this fic, Carly, Sam, and Freddie, all go to the same college and Carly and Sam do as they do, which is continue to be incredibly close so much that Carly knows all 23 of Sam's expressions of hunger or whatever, but then Sam gets a boyfriend and Carly is WAY jealous. And then there are misunderstandings! It all ends well because it is iCarly, though. Also, the fic stays incredibly close to the wacky feel of the canon-it's clear the author loves the show, and they manage to incorporate a lot of little things from canon, like Sam tasting like Peppy Cola. :) It's an adorable fic.
Hunger Games, Matilda, Baby-Sitter's Club, Drake & Josh, Little Women, and Greek next :)
I had a great Christmas. My new Snuggie and I are bffs and I finally have a camera so I can take a picture of my new, short hair and some of our trip in--oh my goodness--ELEVEN days. :D How were yours?
